LYS Spotlight: Yarnivore – NorthEastMama

While I was visiting San Antonio, Texas to visit my best friend’s military retirement, I planned a yarn outing to the local yarn shop, Yarnivore.

Ok first of all, how great is that name? Yarnivore. I might start referring to myself as a “Yarnivore”.

Yarnivore is an independently owned yarn store on the northwest side of San Antonio, Texas.

The day I of my yarn outing, I had just picked up another friend from the airport. She had never visited a yarn store like this, so I was anxious to see her reaction.

My first impression of this store? I was amazed by the size of it. It was probably the largest indie yarn shop I have ever visited. They had very clear sections by yarn weight.

There is also a very nice area to sit and work on projects. The day I visited no one was working on a project, but a couple of boyfriends/husbands were sitting on the couch playing with their phones.

The kids loved their T-Rex knitting temporary tattoos.

Since I have been on a DK/Worsted kick, I was very happy to see they had a large section and spent most of time wandering around, touching all the yarn.

They had a lot of yarn from local Texas fibre artists. I was surprised to discover Yarn Carnival is a Texas yarn. I’ve used this yarn in the past and loved it.

Oh and my friend’s reaction? She is not a crocheter or knitter, but she was enthralled by all the yarn and colors. Maybe we can convert her to the yarn-side.

Besides the yarn, Yarnivore has something I haven’t seen before in person…a spinning wheel. They sell fiber and will teach you how to spin it into yarn.

In fact while I was there a woman bought some fiber and was given a lesson on the spot. Naturally, I was too busy watching instead of taking pictures.
